You're a Jerk

Soooo, since everyone is sweatin Jay-Z's new track, "Death of Autotune [D.O.A.]," I'll put you lovelies on to something a little more exclusive. Don't beat me! I'm a hugeeeeee Jigga fan and I'll be waiting on Blueprint 3 just like everyone else, but since it leaked last night its been back to back rotation and on every blog I know.

With that I'm taking it to the West Coast with a duo called the New Boyz, straight out of L.A. Apparently, the jerkin movement is finally getting some mainstream recognition. Here's a video of the group giving their take on jerkin.

And here it is, "You're a Jerk" by the New Boyz. Enjoy!

Who's Hot

Yes lovelies, it's that time again! It actually took me a while to figure out who my hot celebs were going to be for this week, but I've come to a conclusion. [ d r u m r o l l ]
This one is a 50/50 between the hype and the looks. New Chi-town R&B crooner on the scene, Jeremih has made the cut. By no means am I a big fan of his hit single "Birthday Sex" [don't hate me], but I have to give him the cute pass.

This is where I had become really pensive, but when it comes down to it it had to be the gorgeous Dania Ramirez! The Dominican actress is Kelis' best friend and engaged to video director Jesse Terrero. She's starred in X-Men: The Last Stand and plays Maya in one of my fave shows, Heroes.

Well, that's all folks!

Spec Real Sus

So, I take it by now that everyone has seen the video of Pretty Ricky's own Spectacular challenging Bow Wow, Chris Brown and others to a "grind challenge." The challenge is not what I found suspect about the video. Not even his grinding and rolling was suspect to me, being that it was vaguely reminiscent of a J Smoov video [youtube it]. It was the little red briefs. Like, where are you going with those? Where do you even buy those? I honestly couldn't even hear the music simply because I was about to choke and die from laughing at "Spec" and his red panties.
You all know I'm a lovemuffin so, I recently watched a video posted by B.Scott in response to Spectacular's sus performance. Humorous by all means. Next thing you know we're gonna catch Spectacular doing the paw-paw. Take a look-see.

Okay, Beyoncé... Okay

Now, I hope my lovelies that are Beyoncé stans* don't fry me on this one! I'm a fan of Mrs. Carter as much as the next girl, but I would like to personally request a new video.

"Single Ladies" was released and I liked it a lot. Straight forward, clean and simple with an obvious ode to Broadway styles and of course J-setting. When "Diva" was released I thought, "Single Ladies" part deux? Nonetheless, it was another women's anthem, so I let it go. Most recently, the video for "Ego" was put into rotation and I feel bamboozled.

I mean, she still looks great and the dancing is still hot, but I was waiting for something new. I understand it's supposed to be themed with those specific songs being on the Sasha Fierce side, but it's getting boring. I know it's a recession and all, but three singles for one video? Come on, is it just me?

Just an observation...see for yourself.

How to Be a Lady

There's a new girl group in town and you've got to love them. Think a new millennium adaptation of Prince's Vanity 6. Four gorgeous girls & funky vocals + racy lyrics & cool choreography = Electrik Red. Binkie and Leslie are both New York natives, like myself, while Sarah and Naomi both hail from Toronto. Signed under Def Jam with writing and production from The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, this group is bringing edgy R&B back to light.

With the constant rise and fall of girl groups, they just seem to come and go. However, The-Dream's new ensemble is trying to remain on the scene. A teaser video was released for the song "Drink in My Cup" last winter and they've been slowly, but surely working their way up. Electrik Red's official first single, "So Good" already has a remix with Lil Wayne and really cute video in rotation.

Look for Electrik Red's album, How to Be a Lady Vol. 1, already out in stores. I'm sure you'll find a summer anthem or two on there.

Disney's First Black Princess

After all these years, Disney is finally going to release a traditional animated film with an African American princess. This may not be a big deal to most, but for a lover of Disney classics like myself it most definitely is. The Princess & the Frog is going to be an American fairytale based in New Orleans with a princess by the name of Tiana [go figure]. Actress Anika Noni Rose, of Broadway and Dreamgirls fame, will be the voice of the lead role and Oprah Winfrey voices the character Eudora, the princess' mother.

Though the film is chock full of stereotypes, I'm really excited to take all my little cousins to see what I hope to become a household classic. Honestly, the closest thing we've had to an African American lead in an animated Disney film was Simba... and he was a lion. So, come December make your way to theaters with the fam and see The Princess & the Frog!
