Disney's First Black Princess

After all these years, Disney is finally going to release a traditional animated film with an African American princess. This may not be a big deal to most, but for a lover of Disney classics like myself it most definitely is. The Princess & the Frog is going to be an American fairytale based in New Orleans with a princess by the name of Tiana [go figure]. Actress Anika Noni Rose, of Broadway and Dreamgirls fame, will be the voice of the lead role and Oprah Winfrey voices the character Eudora, the princess' mother.

Though the film is chock full of stereotypes, I'm really excited to take all my little cousins to see what I hope to become a household classic. Honestly, the closest thing we've had to an African American lead in an animated Disney film was Simba... and he was a lion. So, come December make your way to theaters with the fam and see The Princess & the Frog!
