Personal Update

My friend Shay, known on campus as Miss Morgan State University [lol], is going to compete in the Miss HBCU pageant in ATL next week and I just want to wish her the absolute best of luck!! I know she'll make us all proud. She's the dopest! Keep setting that standard and show them what great Morgan women are about!

Tomorrow, I begin my two month countdown to my 21st birthday. I'm totally excited and dreading it all the same. Maybe somehow, just somehow, everything will go miraculosly well and I'll have stories to tell. We'll see, lol. Oh, by the way, though quite cheesy, 21 things to do before 21! I could use some suggestions. Stay tuned for dress options and all that fun stuff in the near future.

I'm thinking of starting a YouTube series..no concept just yet, but it'll come!

Like Holy Scheiβe!!

So, one of my favorite celebs, Miss Jennifer Hudson, won't be a "Miss" for long. The web had already been buzzing about her super on-the-low relationship with Punk from Season 2 of I Love NY and they've been dating less than a year. Well, according to People.com they're engaged! Like, who knew?

My fellow Haitian American, Wyclef Jean partnered with Matt Damon went down to Haiti and set up food distribution to those devasted by the disastrous weather. Good looks on that philanthropy.

Did anyone else see Tyra's scary psycho face at the Calvin Klein's Spring '09 show? Eeeekk!!! I love her but why Tyra? Why? But to cancel out how mean that sounded here's one of my FAVORITE shots of her.

Some Morgan State nouvelle: The first football game of the year the Morgan Bears smashed the North Carolina Central Eagles. Good way to start off the season. Hope you guys do the same at Winston-Salem!!

By the Way

The VMAs were the crappiest of all time. I didn't get past the Jonas Brother performing. Maybe I'll catch a rerun someday just to be sure that it really was that bad.

So, um the word on the net is that McCain is 5 points ahead on the polls. The question is on who's poll? And whom are the polling? Because I clearly don't recall being polled about anything and neither has anyone I know. Just curious.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC = THE one place I wish I could be a fly on the wall, at the very least. Kanye's suit at the Proenza Schouler show...dope. Andre 3000 finally dropping Benjamin Bixby at Barney's....dope. Serena William's dress at the Luca Luca show, soo cute and flattering.

RANDOMS!!!!

-Naturi ::formerly of 3LW:: peeked her head out from behind a rock and appeared at the "The Family That Preys" premiere.
-Usher & Tameka...another baby...the end.

Song of the Moment :: Kanye's "Love Lockdown" on the upcoming "808s & Heartbreak". It's beyond dope.

So like, this week...

The minimal junk:

-watched 90210, it's the quintessential teen drama ::i.e. everything on the N::

-Sarah Palin's straight from the can attack speech was well delivered.

-was shocked and amazed by Ciara's naked Vibe cover ::check it out on CL::

-missed ANTM, but was satisfied with seeing Diane von Furstenberg on Project Runway!

-got a lil motion sickness watching Diddy's insane "Diddy Obama Blog # 16" and I must say he was "buggin the f*ck out" ::youtube it!!::

Now, some Morgan State University nouvelle. Today was the "Rally for Change" in support of the Obama Biden camp. Time for a lil video!

Wooooh...on the DNC tip!

Sorry for the neglect this week! But the first week of school is always hectic and I've totally been distracted by the Democratic National Convention and the other political happenings.

Michelle Obama is nothing short of eloquent and graceful and might I add the Jackie O. of 21st century. Impeccable! Now, on to the man of the moment. Barack Obama just carries that incredible, majestic air about him. People have been going wild about how comparable to the "I Have a Dream" speech his nomination acceptance was. That just holds a lot of weight when it comes to inspiritional influence. And I feel he was quite specific regardless of commentary that has been made. Do not, I repeat, please do not watch Fox News as a source for anything; let's just throw the word biased out there. But on a lighter note, a lot of people have also noticed how fresh Barack's line up and how official Michelle's round brush blow out were. I'm just saying, I'm cosigning with the masses, gotta stay fly. Obama Biden '08. If you haven't yet, I beg of you to register to vote. And to all the students out there, get your absentee ballots early!!

Now you know I couldn't talk about the DNC without mentioning the Republican publicity stunt that is the choosing of Sarah Palin as a Vice Presidential candidate. I'm not gonna go in too deep because that's just giving more unnecessary shine to the opposition, but what the hell?!?!? Everyone's first reaction was Sarah who? The public is not stupid, we all see right through the scheme. Republicans are just sneaky with the tactics, appealing to the white middle class of middle American swing states. Don't be fooled people!!

:: Side note :: I'm taking German this semester, so be prepared, lol. ::

And a small music mention, Brandy's "Right Here (Departed)" is dope!!!

The Question Is

When will the ever faithful receive their reward?

When actions make a believer become an infidel
And patience wears thin
And sanity dwindles
And they discredit the naysayers in their uncertainty
The faithful begin to wonder
What have they really been waiting for all along
And they kneel in prayer, as the ever faithful do
And beg for a sign that they are doing the right thing
And continue on believing that one day, they'll receive what they've given

Some more dope music with a video in the bckgrnd... Estelle ft. Cee-Lo "Pretty Please"

Sometimes...

People tend to underestimate the power of words. A lot people say actions speak louder than words, but I feel that words just hold a totally different type of strength. Actions can get you into trouble, but words can get you out of it. Words can destroy a person's character or be encouraging. Well, my point is that words can really make or break things.

Recently, I've been taking a lot of heed to what people have to say. It's amazing what people will tell you, if you listen. Life stories, subconscious confessions, flattery... everything. They're sealed in the good ol' memory bank ;].

Just some thoughts... Listening is a strength and don't forgot the words you hear.
BTW.. Here's Solange's newest video, "Sandcastle Disco." ENJOY!

My New Personal "It Girl"

Although, I have eternally loved Rihanna and she's just THE girl on the scene right now, I've come to find a new "It Girl." Solange!! and I must admit I was one of those naysayers when she first came out as an artist, but I feel this time around she's really come into her own and is no longer "Beyonce's little sister".

I'm an avid CL* reader and I've really taken notice of everything that's posted about her. Musically, her vocals are fresh, the music has that old school vibe and she's a great writer. I definitely dig her songs "ChampagneChronicNightCap", "Sandcastle Disco" and "T.O.N.Y", just along with the single "I Decided." Solange's style is just that quirky, glam, ever-so-slightly left of the trends and I dig it from the big hair right down to the YSL Spectator pumps. She's most definitely weird, but in the coolest way. And she curses like a sailor, but in a pretty girl voice. There you go, Solange Knowles, my new favorite starlet!

*CL=Concrete Loop*

Check out her blog HadleyStreetJournal.com and look out for her music, the album, Sol-Angel & the Hadley Street Dreams drops August 26th! The video for "Sandcastle Disco" premieres this Friday, August 16th on FN MTV.

Okay so, pretty much anyone who knows me knows I'm like a Pharrell and Kanye junkie.

I've been bumping to the "Everyone Nose" rmx for a minute now, but video's only been out about 2 weeks. Hype Williams masters another one!

And I, also, absolutely dig Kanye's newest video for "Champion.'' So Crank Yankers! Check it out...

&& congrats y kudos to the U.S. Olympic Relay Swim Team [Cullen Jones, Michael Phelps & the other 2 guys =x]... Watch the Olympics, its dope!

Drummer's Grove

Hi!!! Okay, soo nerdy, but this is my first entry. Here goes nothing...

Sunday [which was rainy -_-]*, I headed out to Drummer's Grove at Prospect Park and suprisingly had a lot of fun. It was sort of inspiring to see all these old heads and little kids just dancing and getting dirty, like totally uninhibited. I feel like somehwere between 6 & 65, we lose what's so cool about us in our freedom, just being painfully aware of ourselves. I feel like sometimes you need to remember you're alive and just have a good dance in the dirt to drums on a rainy day. You'll feel better, I promise. It's Tuesday!! That means free admittance to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden!! lol... Well, that's all... *I absolutely, utterly hate the rain and all forms of precipritation*

au revoir
